Why does the woom EXPLORE 5 and 6 have a microSHIFT trigger shifter and the woom EXPLORE 4 has a Shimano twist shifter?

Trigger shifters with a lever for upshifting and a lever for downshifting are an ideal choice for older children from around 7 years of age who already have experience in shifting and have internalized the principle of shifting: they allow them to change gears smoothly, quickly and precisely. The microSHIFT trigger shifter on the woom EXPLORE 5 and 6 was specially developed for children and is therefore particularly smooth-running. It also has rubberized levers (meaning good grip even with wet hands!) which are easy for children's fingers to reach.

For younger children who are likely shifting for the first time, on the other hand, a twist shifter is more suitable, as it makes shifting less complex and much more intuitive: with a turn forward, the child shifts to the next higher gear, with a turn back, the child shifts down again. Because the shifter or grip is also operated with the whole hand, this type of shifting is more advantageous for younger children with less finger strength than trigger shifting with finger levers. All these aspects of twist shifters enable a child-friendly, intuitive introduction to manual shifting.
